DEPARTMENT:  ACADEMIC AFFAIRS

SALARY RANGE:  $95,000-$130,000 /Level 3                                                                          

FLSA:  EXEMPT

 

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR:  Provost/Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs

SCHEDULE DETAILS:  Full-time/12 month position/PSRS

 

Position Summary

The Dean serves as the operational and academic leader of the Health Sciences division. The Dean also provides strategic visionary leadership for programs, advocates for resources, and cultivates relationships with other institutions of higher education, employers, and the community for the benefit of students.

 

Essential Job Duties

  • Provide administrative oversight of the daily operations of including supervision of faculty and staff.
  • Strive to align Health Sciences operations with existing college policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate a positive attitude, foster a supportive culture, and communicate a philosophy of education consistent with promoting overall student success and retention.
  • Engage in effective conflict resolution and demonstrate exceptional problem-solving abilities.
  • Coordinate with other areas of the college to facilitate effective operations.
  • Recruit, interview, and hire full-time faculty.
  • Monitor course enrollments and revise schedules as necessary.
  • Conduct formal instructor classroom observations and annual performance evaluations for Health Science Program directors.
  • Develop budget and capital projects requests for the Health Sciences division.
  • Address student concerns regarding course work and/or instructor conflicts, including student appeals.
  • Carry out student discipline in accordance with college policies and procedures, and in consultation with the dean of students.
  • Collaborate with local high schools and local business and industry to promote college programs, assess the educational needs of the community, and establish professional relationships.
  • Recommend academic programming that meets the needs of the region.
  • Participate actively in professional and local civic organizations.
  • Exhibit exemplary attendance and punctuality.
  • Comply with college policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including attending college functions, serving on committees and attending community events.

 

Non-Essential Job Duties

 

  • Approve relevant professional development activities for faculty.

 

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Earned doctorate degree from a regionally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • At least two years academic leadership experience.
  • Three years of experience teaching at the college level.
  • Experience with strategic planning, faculty supervision, academic planning, and budgeting.
  • Demonstrated use of assessment and student analytics to promote teaching and learning excellence.
  • Ability to work well with others.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, including demonstrated conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to use information technology for professional productivity (such as Microsoft Office Suite).

 

Preferred Knowledge Skills & Abilities

  • Professional health care experience, preferably including patient care.
  • Demonstrated ability to increase student retention and success.
  • Two years of experience with selecting, mentoring, evaluating, and developing faculty.
  • Experience with Colleague.
  • Experience working within a collegiate setting.
